The Place
The Ashram is a natural sanctuary, a peaceful haven nestled in the green hills of Wales, UK.
This setting provides a quiet, safe, nurturing environment in which to go deep into the teachings and practices of yoga.
Location
The Ashram is located on the North-Western edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, a wild area of natural beauty. We occupy a secluded hilltop site with breathtaking views over the lovely Tywi Valley to the Beacons and the 'Black Mountain'. You'll find us about 1-hour drive North of Swansea and 45 mins East of Carmarthen, up in the hills North of the A40 between the small market towns of Llandeilo and Llandovery.
Setting
Originally a Welsh hill-farm, the Ashram has grown organically over the past 35 years to provide simple, comfortable accommodation and facilities for groups of up to 20 students at a time. The buildings are set within lush gardens and grounds covering 23 acres, including a pond and wooded areas. Meandering pathways weave all over the grounds and out into the surrounding countryside, where expansive views abound in every direction.
Sadhana Hall
At the heart of the Ashram is the Sadhana Hall, where the spiritual energies of nearly 30 years of daily yoga practice and regular group intensives have accumulated to create a very deep vibe. A Shri Yantra, symbolising the Goddess, and our Akhanda Joyti (lit. 'unquenchable flame') which has been kept alight continuously for nearly 30 years and symbolises the light of pure Consciousness, preside over the space, representing the harmonious balance and integration of energy and consciousness that is core to our teachings.
Library
The Ashram library is a treasure trove of wisdom teachings, stocked with around 4000 titles on all aspects of yoga and related topics concerned with human potential, including philosophy, meditation, psychology, health and healing, world religions and spirituality.
Dining Room & Conservatory
Meals are taken in the communal dining room and the conservatory, pictured here – or, if the sun is shining, outside in the garden!
Accommodation
The Ashram accommodation is simple but comfortable. Most of the Ashram rooms are shared dormitories (all-men or all-women) for up to 6 people. Some people are initially reluctant to share a room, but we find that most people enjoy the experience of sharing space with like-minded hearts. We have silence (mouna) from 9pm until breakfast the next day, so you will not be disturbed by talking room-mates. There are also a number of single rooms which are prioritised for people with a medical need.
