About Nadi Shodhana Pranayama

The Sanskrit word nadi means 'psychic pathway'. The word shodhana means 'purification'. Nadi Shodhana can therefore be understood to be a practice that purifies our subtle, psychic pathways, allowing the energy of prana to flow more freely and in a more balanced way through our energetic system.

Traditionally Nadi Shodhana Pranayama is considered to be a valuable technique for restoring and promoting health and wellbeing at all levels of our being.

It is also an excellent preparation for meditation techniques, in general by bringing calm and an introspective attitude to the mind, and more specifically by bringing balance to the ida and pingala nadis which leads to a centering of the pranic flow in the shushumna nadi - the central channel.

About This Course

This course contains a thorough introduction to the theory and practice of Nadi Shodhana Pranayama, enabling the student to safely and confidently begin and develop their practice.

Starting with a introductory section giving an overview of the practice and the course, including details on how to pace your practice, you will then be guided through the main technicalities of Nadi Shodhana Pranayama, before moving into a series of carefully structured practices. The final section then takes you deeper and points the way towards ongoing development.

Each step of the way clear instructions will make the process of learning and acclimatising to the practice easy, and throughout emphasis is placed on safety and gradual development. In pranayama, this is so important and can often be overlooked.

The goal isn't to rush towards extended exhalations or retentions, but to cultivate a deep relationship with the breath and a feel for the subtle energetics of the practice. Only from there can you begin to build a genuinely balanced and stable Nadi Shodhana practice that will nourish you for many years to come.
