The Shanti Path - Invocation of Peace
The Shanti Path is a beautiful Sanskrit Mantra, invoking fundamental peace and well-being for all beings in creation.
It's source is the Brihadaranyak Upanished, one of the earliest Upanishads (9th to 6th century BCE).
At the Ashram this mantra is often chanted at the end of the day, to send positive wishes out to the universe before sleep, but it can certainly be chanted at any other time too.
Below you'll find the transliterated text of the mantra with translation, to accompany the audio above.
Asato Ma Sad Gamaya
Lead me from ignorance to Truth
Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya
Lead me from darkness to Light
Mrityor Ma Amritam Gamaya
Lead me from mortality to the realization of That which is Imortal
Sarvesham Swastir Bhavatu
Let there be Auspiciousness to all Beings
Sarvesham Shantir Bhavatu
Let there be Peace to all Beings
Sarvesham Purnam Bhavatu
Let there be Fulfilment to all Beings
Sarvesham Mangalam Bhavatu
Let there be Welfare to all Beings
Loka Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu
Let there be Happiness to Beings on all the planes of Existence
Om Shanti Shanti Shantih
Om Peace Peace Peace
(From the Brihadaranyak Upanishad 1st Adhyaya, 3rd Brahmana, 28th Mantra)
